As of Friday, 4/29, the crane family is mostly faring well. Sadly, the second egg hatched, but the chick did not survive.
High winds and thunder storms with torrential rains occurred all day Tuesday, 4/26, just after the 2nd egg hatched, and perhaps that was a contributing factor.
The good news is that the one crane chick is very active and appears healthy. The family is venturing off the island a little bit further each day, and the chick is already well trained to stay close to mama and duck if a strange creature comes too close by (like photographers
).

Monday, April 25, 2011, residents near the Sand Hill Cranes’ nesting island noticed that one of the 2 eggs had disappeared! A new fuzzy baby toddles around in its place, and the second egg is still waiting under mom’s & dad’s watchful eyes.
Click on the thumbnail images below for a few pictures in a larger size.
Please note that our photographer kept a safe distance and used a telephoto lens to avoid disturbing the family.

Enthusiastic High Point residents joined together to create a garden plot, and the fruits of their labors were shared today!
As the sign said, there were free veggies available on a first-come, first-served basis. Choices included parsley, lettuce, broccoli, squash, green onions, cucumbers, to name a few.
The garden is located behind the building at 127 Lakes End Dr., and it’s beautiful. Surrounded by fence to keep out the bunnies, raccoons, armadillos and squirrels, neat rows are producing delicious, nutritious food.
For future Fridays, you might want to bring a small amount of money for a donation for future seeds. There was a can set out for that purpose.

Greetings, fellow High Point residents.
As members of the High Point community, we have some common interests that have been served mainly by the clubhouse bulletin boards and the channel 99 announcements. Since a large part of our population includes snowbirds, we thought an on-line presence might serve well.
Obviously this site will be a work in progress. While we understand that the 3 sections are legally separate entities, we as residents are also neighbors. We share security, roads, wildlife and a love of our neighborhood.
Please visit often as we add more pages and features here. Please feel free to contact us with any suggestions for content, including your photographs, editorials and local news.
